Today, Dad and I passed by this quaint neighbourhood garden beside Blk 320 at Woodlands Street 32 as we were taking our morning walk. We usually pass it by, but never got the chance to upload our pictures that we took. So here's it!
I didn't know the names of these two flowers, but I Googled Lens-ed it, and it turns out to be nerium oleander. This plant was pretty tall, 2x my height, and it does correspond to the NParks page, where it says that it is a "large woody shrub", up to 6m tall, but usually 1.5-3m tall. That's still pretty tall, if you ask me!
The flowers are usually in red, but we spotted one with pink flowers as well. Fun fact! The genus name of the flower/plant comes from the Greek word, 'nerion', which means moist. This means that this plant likes moist soils. The genus name 'oleander' was coined because its leaves resemble olive leaves.
Here is the nerium oleander in pink. Which coloured flowers do you prefer?
In the surrounding area, there was also a table, two chairs and a shelter. On the ground were little figurines such as a mother hen and her chicks, Scooby Doo, and How to Train Your dragon dragons.
And after taking some pictures, that marks the end of our little garden adventures as we walked!
These were in pots around the area.
We spotted some purple fountain grass at the roadside too.
